This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect when you use the Nota mobile app and the nota.app website ("Nota", "the app", "we"), why we process it, and how you can exercise your rights. Contact details for the data controller are at the end of this page.
Data we collect
When you create an account we collect your full name, email address, and password (stored one-way hashed); you may optionally add a profile photo. While using the app, the class notes you upload (photos, PDFs, or voice recordings) and the podcasts, quizzes, flashcards, chat messages and exam predictions generated from them are stored against your account. We also process a push notification token, your notification preferences, and your daily usage/quota data. Crash and error reports (for diagnostics, including device and OS information) are collected automatically.
Why we process your data
We process your data to create and authenticate your account, to generate AI podcasts, quizzes, flashcards, chat answers and exam predictions from the notes you upload, to manage your free daily usage quota, to send you notifications, and to detect and fix bugs in the app. Your notes and generated content are private to your account and are never shared with other users.
Third-party service providers
To deliver the service we rely on the following subprocessors: Google Gemini API for converting note images/audio into text and for AI content generation; ElevenLabs for podcast voice synthesis; Amazon S3 for storing uploaded files; MongoDB Atlas for storing account/content data; Resend for transactional email (e.g. password reset); and Sentry for app error diagnostics. These providers process your data solely to provide services to us and do not use it for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
Data retention
Your data is retained while your account is active, and for a reasonable processing period after your account is deleted. Error/diagnostic logs are automatically purged on a shorter cycle.
Your rights and requesting account/data deletion
You have the right to access, correct, export, and request deletion of your data under applicable data protection law. To have your account and all associated data permanently deleted, contact us at the email address below; requests are completed within 30 days at the latest.
Children's privacy
Nota does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The app is designed for high school and university students, and adults preparing for standardized exams.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email.
